10 research songs

Below is a list of the 10 best songs (IMHO) to do market research to.

10. Listen To What The Man Said – Paul Mccartney & Wings

9.  Can’t Buy Me Love – The Beatles

8. Good Vibrations – The Beach Boys

7. Cant You Hear Me Calling – Ricky Skaggs (This one goes out to all telephone interviewers)

6. I Can’t Be Satisfied – Muddy Waters

5. Give Me One Reason – Tracy Chapman

4. Some Might Say – Oasis

3. Five Short Minutes – Jim Croce (the best survey length)

2. Keep the customer satisfied – Simon & Garfunkel

1.  (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction – The Rolling Stones

A special mention goes to Speech De Belle who just won the 2009 Mercury prize. Before becoming a prize winning musician she was also a market researcher.

If you think I have left any songs out or challenge my ordering let me know. And for those about to survey ‘We salute you’!

  1. Duncan Stuart Says:

I’d add the statistical song: “One in 10″ by UB40. (“A statistical reminder of a world that doesn’t care.” goes the lyric.)

And how about those songs from the women’s survey:

The Lady Don’t Mind (attitude question – brand preference.)
The Lady is a Tramp (demographic question – occupation)
Three Times a Lady (which I think is a coding error)

  2. Jared Bothwell Says:

Nice one Duncan, how about “I feel like a number” by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band for statistical significance.

  3. Julie D Says:

We all need a little humor to survive this field! Thank you for this list.

    I’d suggest the following:

Duran Duran “Is There Something I Should Know”…please please tell me now!
John Lennon “Let Me Count the Ways”

  4. Jared Bothwell Says:

Nice choice Julie, like the Duran Duran track.

  5. Jim Whaley Says:

I won’t be fooled again – the Who

  6. Jared Bothwell Says:

Nice one Jim, “My Generation” – The Who for those interested in X & Y and the Baby Boomers.

  7. Dan Gersten Says:

    Thanks for this delightful topic!
